On 17 and 18 May 2018 the Jean Monnet Chair "Rethinking EU trade policy for development"/REUTRADE. will host two Seminars of Prof. L. A. Winters from University of Sussex (UK) and UKTPO.
Topics to discuss include the contentious issue of whether trade liberalisation boosts economic growth or income. It then explores how liberalisation affects poverty in developing countries as well as the impact of the post-Brexit trade policy on development.

L Alan Winters is Professor of Economics and Director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory in the University of Sussex, a leading contributor to the debate on Brexit. From 2008 to 2011 he was Chief Economist at the British government’s Department for International Development (DFID), and from 2004 to 2007 Director of the Development Research Group of the World Bank.
